Nikhil Vettukattil: Artist talk and workshop
Nikhil Vettukattil will present a lecture on his artistic practice, followed by a two-day workshop as part of the Institute for Scene Experiments, entitled "Protest is when I say I don't like this. Resistance is when I put an end to what I don't like". The Institute for Scene Experiments is a fictional institution devoted to the investigation, production and dissemination of scenes, a situation for exchanging knowledge around different technical aspects of filmmaking and performance. We will analyse, deconstruct and reconstitute elements of scenes for camera, exploring alternative ways of staging narrative, framing, sound, etc. ISE aims to reflect on the film crew as a social form. We shall aim to engage the generativity and potentialities of scenes independent of plot, development and conclusivity through a form of open rehearsal for camera. For this particular workshop we will work with methods from Marcel Broodthaers' 1975 exhibition Décor: A Conquest as a point of common reference.
